delegation from bochum at izolyatsia

On 22 and 24 July, a delegation from Bochum - Donetsk’s German twin city - made a visit to the IZOLYATSIA art-space. The purpose of this visit was to get acquainted with IZOLYATSIA’s territory and projects, to discuss the possibilities for cooperation, and last but not least, to enjoy Donetsk’s sky-line from the top of the IZO-terrekon. Guests from Germany noted not only how similar the landscape is here to that in Bochum, which used to be Germany’s mining centre, but also the parallel of reconverting a derelict industrial location and reutilising it as a cultural site. Moreover, the delegation’s representatives of ecological organisations were greatly interested in IZOLYATSIA’s ecological programme, which has been launched in the past month with the Eco-Subbotnik events.

It is no coincidence that Donetsk and Bochum are twin cities and it seems essential to carry on sharing experiences relevant to post-industrial development. Our next opportunity to continue the dialogue presented itself on 8-9 July when one of the IZO-team members made a visit to Bochum as part of the Donetsk delegation to the Ruhr area. A picture is worth a thousand words, so to speak.
