Ukraine is under siege following a full-scale military invasion by Russia on 24 February 2022

April 8 at 19:00 on the 4 flour of IZONE take place opening of the exhibition by Sergey Polezhaka – Bridges of Donbas. Sergey Polezhaka is a Ukrainian visual journalist, currently based in Kiev and Aarhus, where he is studying in Danish School of Journalism.

He started his career as a freelancer in 2011, contributing pictures to local wire agencies and later to international ones like Reuters, continuing his work by doing assignments for magazines Der Spiegel, La Vanguardia, newspapers Het Nieuwsblad, Tages Anzeiger etc.

A bit of unusual photojournalistic approach was made in 2013 with an India by foot project, which was an assignment from Prof. Hersh Chadha. The result is a multimedia e-book on iTunes with selected photographs available on his website. This book is a reflection of author’s mind answering a question, what makes India stay out of a line.

Since the beginning of Ukrainian social unrest, also known as EuroMaidan (2013), he mostly contributed for the biggest European newspaper Bild. Accompanied with a journalist, he produced video and photo stories on ongoing struggle in rapidly changing environment. During this collaboration he had been working in Kiev ablaze, later he moved to cities of Donetsk, Slaviansk, Mariupol, MH17’s crash site for action stories, personalized social narratives as well as covering breaking news.

Exhibition Bridges of Donbas is an attempt to comprehend social and communicational abysses which emerged between and within Russian and Ukrainian societies during the war.
