Presenting the Project Lost in Decommunisation

On Thursday, July 21, at 7:30 PM, as part of the Social Contract project by IZOLYATSIA, the journalist Sébastien Gobert and photographer Niels Ackermann (Switzerland) will present their research Lost in Decommunisation.

The Leninfall and Decommunisation processes raise serious questions on Ukraine's understanding of its past and the development of a new historical narrative. Niels Ackermann and Sébastien Gobert who have lived in the country for several years now are fascinated with the process and its implications. In order to understand it, they chose to focus on the monuments to Lenin, which are toppled all across the country. The aim is to contribute to the debate on Decommunisation and Ukraine’s new historiography. Wanting to understand rather than to explain, the journalists document the splinters of the monuments and interview people involved in their dismantling.

At the talk within the framework of the Social Contract project, Gobert and Ackermann want to initiate a debate on different perceptions of Decommunisation – and on what comes next. They will also announce an action to be included in their project, which will take place at the former site of the Lenin monument at Bessarabka in autumn.

The presentation will be held at 8 Naberezhno-Luhova Street, Second Floor.
