Artist talk by photographer David Denil

On June 12, 2017, at 7 PM, Belgian photographer David Denil will give an artist talk at the IZONE Creative Community, as part of the the Donbas Studies project by IZOLYATSIA. David will present his photographic research and the project Let Us Not Fall Asleep While Walking.

The project’s title is based on the translation of Taras Shevchenko’s poem. The project is built around the idea of visualising the mental atmosphere of a country divided by war without depicting the war itself. The works represent a generalised view on the citizens of Kyiv, focusing on their thoughts, hopes, beliefs, doubts and fears about the struggle to keep independence.

The photo series contains about 180 images. Together with archival materials and graphical elements, they will become a photobook scheduled to be published at the end of this year.  Last month, the project was awarded with the Alexia Foundation Grant, the Center Award, the PHM Grant, and recently, it became a finalist of the Voies Off Award in Arles.

The artist talk will be held at the IZONE Creative Community, vul. Naberezhno-Luhova 8, First Floor. Free entrance.
