"We Will Be a We": the Cultural Transformation Movement publication
On 22 October 2026 in Silandro, Italy, during the Trans Europe Halles meeting, "We Will Be a We", a publication of the Cultural Transformation Movement (CTM), was presented.
The book explores how to change cultural organisations from within, rather than simply "including" new groups in existing structures. Artists from underrepresented communities work inside organisations as Artists/Agents of Change and influence governance, internal policies and the ways art is made.
Instead of an academic report, it is a living text in which Israel Aloni's reflections are interwoven with the voices of project participants, artistic productions, the Manifesto of Change and the Artistic Statement. Separate chapters are devoted to methodologies, workshops and policy recommendations. The practical part includes safer space guidelines, an access rider and a list of "Things You Can Do".
IZOLYATSIA is one of the four Centres of Change in the project. Among the artistic productions described in the book is the exhibition "Transit Zones", which Agent of Change Kseniya Ulianova developed with Dnipro Center for Contemporary Culture. The publication also examines how war reshapes work on social justice and presents the Ukrainian context as a condition that shapes the project, not just a backdrop.
The publication was created within CTMP (The Cultural Transformation Movement Project), a four-year initiative of the Trans Europe Halles network. Partners: Brunnenpassage (Austria), VIERNULVIER (Belgium), Zo centro culture contemporanee (Italy) and IZOLYATSIA.
