Russian illegal prison on IZOLYATSIA premises has been operational for 10 years.

On December 13, at 2 pm, as part of the CRAWLING BORDER exhibition project held in IZOLYATSIA, the artist Rusudan Khizanishvili will read a lecture on contemporary art in Georgia.

The lecture will be focused on several prominent figures in Georgian contemporary art, especially its “godfather” Karlo Kacharava (1964-1994). Activist, poet and artist, Kacharava was the founder and main inspirer behind the underground art group Tenth Floor that left an important mark on the art landscape of today’s Georgia.

Rusudan Khizanishvili graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, majored in Arts and Media. In 2005, the artist participated in a residency from Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre (Latvia). Khizanishvili's works are exhibited in several European galleries, including Edgar Modern (Bath, UK), Irok (Horst, Netherlands), Maureg'Art (Mortagne-au-Perche, France) and others. In 2015, she participated in a large-scale exhibition project Synthetical Art - Artist's Book "Vepkhistqaosani", held at the Georgian National Museum (Tbilisi). All ten works by Khizanishvili were subsequently purchased by the museum as a cultural heritage of Georgia.

The lecture will take place at 8 Naberezhno-Luhova Street, Second Floor.

The exhibition CRAWLING BORDER – Georgian pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennial – will be held in IZOLYATSIA from December 11, 2015 to January 20, 2016. Free entry.
