Climate-Forward Culture: Practical Sustainability | ZMINA:Resilience webinar #7

🌿 ZMINA:Resilience Capacity Building Training | Green Culture series

We are excited to continue our Green Culture series, a program designed to help us redefine our artistic practices toward sustainability and responsibility. In an era of climate change, ecology in culture is a necessity—but how do we translate high-level goals into daily operations?

This session aims to position arts and culture within the transformational change required for a sustainable future. Through a combination of presentation and interactive elements, trainer Caro Overy will guide us through the practicalities of environmental sustainability. We will cover methods for minimizing environmental impacts while centering climate justice in our actions.

A key part of the session is exploring "Just Resilience" — understanding how the cultural sector can contribute to a fair transition for everyone. By analyzing case studies from the Scottish cultural context (including sustainable travel and circular economy practices), participants will reflect on their own projects. You will learn to identify where you have direct control over your impact and where you can use your influence to advocate for wider systemic change.

📌 Key takeaways:

  • Systemic Understanding: Exploring the intersection of climate justice, mitigation, and adaptation.
  • The Control Model: Applying the 'Control/Influence/Concern' framework to identify your specific agency in climate action.
  • Operational Tips: Practical methods to minimize environmental footprints in travel, energy use, and materials.
  • Embedding Resilience: Learning from Scottish case studies on how to contribute to a "just transition" within the cultural landscape.
