The Digital Paradox: Navigating Innovation and Sustainability | ZMINA:Resilience webinar #6

🌿 ZMINA:Resilience Capacity Building Training | Green Culture series

We are excited to launch the next chapter of our Capacity Building programme – the Green Culture series. In an era of climate change, ecology in culture is no longer just a choice, but a necessity. This series is designed to help us redefine our artistic and management practices toward sustainability, fairness, and responsibility to the planet.

As digital technologies and artificial intelligence increasingly shape how we collaborate and create culture, it is essential to question not only their benefits but also their hidden costs. This capacity-building event aims to support cultural professionals in navigating the intersection of digital transformation, ecological responsibility, and global equity.

While digitalisation is often seen as a way to enable global collaboration, the environmental burden — from the extraction of rare metals to growing data centres in energy-vulnerable regions — is unevenly distributed. The rapid expansion of AI further intensifies these dynamics, raising critical geopolitical questions around dependency and digital sovereignty. In this context, can going digital be considered inherently "green"?

This training session invites participants to reflect on their own practices within this global system. We will begin with a theoretical introduction to key challenges, followed by a participatory exchange where participants share their own digital practices and explore solutions for their organisations. The goal is to equip cultural professionals with a more conscious, critical, and systemic approach to innovation.
