Lyagin's case transferred to the Сourt of Аppeal

On 9 January 2020, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court transferred the case to the Kyiv Court of Appeals to determine appropriate jurisdiction. The next step will be the transferral of the case to the Supreme Court, where the final adjudicating body will be determined.

These events indicate that the Shevchenkivskyi District Court has refused to continue with the case of Roman Lyagin in Kyiv, and has taken the first step toward ensuring that the case will be decided in the Donetsk region, where it is far less likely to command the attention of activists, journalists and caring citizens, and therefore where it will be difficult to verify the impartiality and fairness of the court.
