Donbas Studies Summer School
De-Industrialization and Conflict in Donbas: Capacity Building in Ukraine to Make Donbas (Mono)towns Inclusive, Safe, Resilient and Sustainable is a long-term research project implemented by IZOLYATSIA, CRSCEES (University of St Andrews), Center for Urban History of Eastern Central Europe. As part of this project, there will be a series of events promoting international cooperation among the researchers, artists and cultural activists from the UK, Ukraine and beyond.
The aim of the project is to reconsider the cultural heritage of industrial (mono)towns of Donbas, which are currently facing the challenges of de-industrialization and the war. The project is aimed at empowering local communities in the non-diversified industrial region of Ukraine.
As part of the project a series of research materials concerning the region’s potential for development, its local communities and, specifically, creative groups, will be issued. Concurrently, from June 23 till July 2, researchers, artists, and cultural activists will conduct their investigation on site within the Donbas Studies Summer School 2019 The Plant Gave Us Everything.
The project was initiated by Donbas Studies, a research project of IZOLYATSIA, with an attempt to promote the potential of local communities in the non-diversified region. The research project is also conjoined with the CRSCEES (University of St Andrews), Center for Urban History of Eastern Central Europe.
