Programme 2024
In 2022-2023, the IZOLYATSIA team focused all its efforts and institutional resources on providing humanitarian assistance to Ukrainians affected by the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation. In 2024-2025, the Foundation will return to implementing a multidisciplinary programme in our core areas, which have only become more relevant since the outbreak of full-scale war.
The key goals of the institution:
- cultural decentralisation and capacity building of Ukrainian cultural organisations, cultural professionals, and support for grassroots cultural initiatives,
- cultural diplomacy and promotion of Ukrainian culture abroad,
- human rights of people in the occupied territories of Ukraine, especially in illegal detention centres, and research on Russian propaganda and manipulation,
- projects aimed at researching and highlighting the ecocide in Ukraine.
Every day, we help Ukrainian cultural actors gain the necessary knowledge, experience and support to fulfil their potential. This work involves consultations and meetings, the ZMINA: Rebuilding sub-grant scheme, which offers training and workshops, and the opportunity to receive project funding. Together with leading Ukrainian museums, the Foundation implements the "Heritage. Space for work" programme, designed to develop local cultural operators' knowledge, experience and networking in different regions.
Cultural diplomacy has become one of the most critical tools for influencing Ukraine's partners abroad. The IZOLYATSIA Foundation is actively working to showcase the wide range of identities of Ukrainian culture, tell personal stories and experiences of the war while presenting Ukrainian society as active fighters for justice and survival, and demonstrate a vision of the post-war future. Through the ZMINA: Rebuilding programme, the Foundation supports more than 20 large-scale projects in Creative Europe aimed at showcasing the capacity of the Ukrainian cultural sector. Through a series of residencies in the UK, Germany, Cyprus, Italy, and Georgia, the Foundation shares artists' personal stories. It creates personal connections with the local communities in these countries.
IZOLYATSIA continues its work to draw attention to the violations of the rights of people affected by Russian aggression in Ukraine. This year, we mark ten years since the seizure of the IZOLYATSIA Foundation's premises in Donetsk and its transformation into an illegal prison of the Russian Federation. Together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Institute, we continue to work on the IZOLYATSIA Must Speak advocacy campaign, which informs Western politicians, diplomats, and the cultural community about the horrors that Russia is perpetrating in the seized premises of the Foundation.
We are planning a series of residencies and public programmes through which we will continue to explore the impact of Russian aggression on the environment of Ukraine through the eyes of expert scientists, scholars, and artists.
