The Grounding podcast
16 September 2020 — 31 December 2020
The Grounding podcast is a series of conversations with activists, researchers, artists, and other actors who reflect on the Anthropocene and environment-related subjects in their practice.
The Zazemlennya (Grounding) is a new research direction of the IZOLYATSIA foundation which takes an Anthropocenic approach to the study on the impact of human activities on the environment.
The Anthropocene describes the geological epoch in which we currently find ourselves and in which humanity is defined as a crucial geological force that significantly impacts the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere of the planet. The concept of the Anthropocene was suggested at the beginning of the 2000s by a number of scientists but was quickly appropriated by various fields of humanities as well as contemporary art.
The potential of the approach proposed by Anthropocene seems unquestionable, urgent, and absolutely timely given the scale and speed of climate change. Against this background, politically and ideologically irreconcilable differences seem to recede and must become subordinate to the more general logic of the common threat to human existence. IZOLYATSIA has entered the ongoing discussion on the Anthropocene, and through its own research as well as through a number of interdisciplinary collaborations, aims to promote and adapt the concept of the Anthropocene to the critical discourse in Ukraine.
