On the 23d of April at 11:00 am - 12: 30 pm in New York the Department of Public Information in cooperation with the World Federation of Ukrainian Women's Organizations will organize a briefing Culture and Conflict: art as a tool for a conflict prevention. The curator of IZOLYATZIA, Olena Chervonik, will be among the participants of the event.
“Art has an influence only if contact with it lasts for a long time. And the process of altering of the brain is slow. While government agencies want these processes to occur quickly: cultural troopers landed, demonstrated something for a month and went back. You cannot achieve any results in this way. The application of art on a case-by-case basis – this is in most cases just propaganda” – Olena Chernovik, IZIN 2014.
The World Federation of Ukrainian Women's Organizations (WFUWO) was founded in 1948 by ten women's organizations in Philadelphia (USA). Today WFUWO is based in Toronto (Canada) and brings together 27 organizations from 17 countries on four continents. Components of WFUWO work on different areas: social, religious, cultural, educational, immigration, and humanitarian. WFUWO displays the activity of local Ukrainian communities around the world, and presents them on the international arena in the United Nations (UN) organization.
The briefing will be held at the United Nations Headquarters, in New York.
