In studying the history of the industrial Donbas region, an important area is gender research, in particular, the creation of so-called “soviet industrial type of man”. In describing the context of Donbas region (Donetsk and Luhansk) it is important to talk about gender as the political technology that was successfully used to form the desired special political and social environment.
Today's military conditions in the Donbas raise another important topic for Gender Studies – the experiences and research of war.Ukrainian historiography and media discourse are based on the analysis of the male experience (terminology such as “won”, “freed”, “attacked”), that plays an important role in the glorification and mythologizing of war (terms such as "Great war”, “Great Victory”, etc). Instead, the women's experience of war shows the other side of the problem, including violence, struggle, hardship, and hard work.
Gender Research by DS want to activating Ukrainian and international scientific environment around gender issues in industrial and post-industrial societies, and societies with a military conflicts by conducting research and public debates.
The result of the research will be a compilation a single book with research materials.
