Creative time summit

On August, 11, IZOLYATSIA will be a Livestream site of Creative Time Summit at the Venice 56th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, bringing the Ukraine for the first time into the group of 70+ international Screening Sites allowing local artists, activists and audiences to watch along with the thousands attending the summit.

Since 2009, the annual Creative Time Summit has operated as a platform for the intersection of art and politics. The Venice Art Biennale provides an ideal site to gather an international, interdisciplinary community to consider how knowledge is produced and disseminated in society, and explore the many ways in which artists are tackling the world’s most challenging social and political issues.

The Summit will be live broadcasted at IZOLYATSIA in Kyiv on August, 11, from 4 till 6 PM.

In addition,  IZOLYATSIA is honored to be selected to show the video of the project #ONVACATION, filmed in Venice, as part of the opening night of the Creative Time Summit on August, 10, 2015,. Mykhailo Glubokyi of IZOLYATSIA, will present.

#ONVACATION is a guerrilla public art project carried out by a group of anonymous artists in May and June in the Giardini at the Venice Biennale.

The artists engaged visitors of the Biennale to reflect on occupation, conflicts and the media representation of military aggression. The artts distributed free uniforms –camouflage coats with the inscription “#ONVACATION”and invited people to participate by: wearing the uniforms, taking a selfie in any nation’s pavilion occupying another territory, and uploading the photo to the #ONVACATION site for a chance to win a free vacation in occupied Balaklava. The randomly selected vacation winner from Latvia is currently, with trepidation and curiosity, planning her beach vacation to Crimea.

This action and the original anonymity were a reference to Russian “green men”, who occupied the Ukrainian Crimea and Donbass in 2014, claiming to be “on vacation.”Similar forces seized the territory of Donetsk on June 9, 2014, occupying IZOLYATSIA Cultural Platform “to place the humanitarian aid arriving from Russia,”and exiling the art foundation to Kyiv. Although this was the pretext for the occupation, the occupiers’justification of their actions quickly gave way to a strategic military and violent cultural agenda. This video shows the destruction of art-works at IZOLYATSIA in Donetsk. The territory of the foundation is currently used as a military base and a detention centre.
